since i am some one who loves both comics and anime, to me this is great and is looking to be a really good movie. but i know a lot of people don't like anime and was wondering how people feel about a charicter has cool has Batman being done in Anime instead of american cartoon syle that he has always been done in, both cartoons and animation movies.

i’m just waiting for the new movie………i don’t care about the cartoon

no batman is an american icon and it would do bob kane and bill fingers a grave injustice to have their creations done in that style

Before you anime guys hang me out to dry….Let me first say that there are somethings that shouldn’t be touched…the classics…Batman included…
I will not be able to enjoy an anime version….It is the old school in me….
With that in mind, the same goes for what you anime guys like, would you want to see your next favorite anime movie done by todays ‘traditional animation’ standards, like spongebob or Mr. Men…..I don’t think so….
I appreciate and respect your love for anime, all I wish is the same for the Marvel and DC Classics…..
Take Care

I think it’s great. I, too, love Batman and anime. In particular, I’m looking forward to seeing the story by Satoshi Kon, because I either really like or *love* everything he’s done (Paranoia Agent, Millenium Actress, Paprika, Perfect Blue, etc.).
There was also the Batman manga from several years ago, “Child of Dreams” I think it was called. It was okay. There’s something about Batman that makes anime revision appropriate, unlike the Teen Titans show–in which, IMO, the anime style and face faults border on the annoying.
There are some fans who aren’t open to it for legitimate reasons, but I think others have this knee-jerk reaction to anything anime (I know a few people like that in real life, so…). Anime isn’t all about pointy blue hair and robot boots. Anime is not a genre; it is a medium that contains disparate genres and styles. It can be mature, dark, and psychologically deep. Just like Batman comics…
Oh, but it can’t take the place of the animated 90s series–of that I’m sure.
PS Hero From Yesterday; your question’s hardly fair, since you gave Spongebob (!) and Mr. Men (!?!) as examples. I’d say no to those, but if you gave high-calibre examples, then the answer is yes. For me, the only thing that matters is if it’s well done.

I think it looks fantastic. But just FYI, it isn’t one single movie, but a collection of shorts done by different directors in several different styles, kind of like The Animatrix.
And as for anyone who thinks Batman shouldn’t be touched, or Bob Kane and Bill Finger wouldn’t like this… I’m sorry, but you’re way off base. Batman’s been around for decades, and has been worked on by hundreds of different artists, INCLUDING manga style artists. He’s “touched” by a different method or style constantly! He’s been painted, animated, drawn, and filmed in so many different ways. That’s one of the reasons the character is so fantastic: because he is, at his core, incredibly versatile and can be portrayed in many, many different ways, in many different styles. That’s also why he will always be around, because he can so easily adapt as a character and be interpreted for different generations. To think that anime is inferior to any other style is, frankly, retarded. And I PREFER american comics over anime.
I also really don’t think you should announce how Bob Kane and Bill Finger would feel about this. You’re putting your words into their mouths, assuming they felt the same way about Japanese animation as you do, something of which you have NO proof.
