No, I don't want the IMDB pat answer. I am a regular contributor to the IMDB and it is a great sight, but mentions nothing about this.
No, moron. Everyone knows that!! I am talking about what Navy sub struck from the active register. as in SS343, Clamagore or SS287, USS Bowfin.

It’s the Penguins sub that the villians are using

Its a custom bult one. It has to be because in the commentary for the movie they said that the area where they were filiming the scene was a lake near the studio lots, and the total depth of the lake was only four feet deep.
My asumption is that they only built the deck and then tied it down with supports to make it appear like a whole submarine. The rest of the submarine shots were done probably with toys, models perhaps.
So to answer your question I dont think there was an actuall submarine at all consdiering the lake they were shooting the scene at the time was much too small to hold one.

In the movie Batman the super villains – Riddler, Penguin, Joker, and Catwoman buy a pre atomic submarine that they use to shoot torpedoes, and Polaris missiles at whomever would oppose them.
In reality, the submarine was created by Hollywood and not an actual submarine used in a war.
. The real inside of a submarine also is so small that it would be impossible to film inside so Paramount Pictures created their own.
——————————————————————————
For the 1966 movie staring Frank Sinatra ” Assault on a Queen” Frank Sinatra and crew decided to raise a old German U-boat and restore it then attack the Queen Mary. It would be far less expensive to create the hull of a U Boat than to either raise a sunk one or try to purchase a used one ( Although Penguin got a really good deal
The Submarine is very similar to the old UB series German Submarines used in WW1.
The filming of the sub – the miniature and the full size set was all done at the 20th Century Fox Malibu Ranch in the canyon. The Lake was called Sorenson’s Lake after the great animator that passed away in 1962. The sky was a blue screen and the water was only 4′ deep !!!! The Lake was drained to film ” The Towering Inferno” in 1974.
The huge submarine prop was loaded up and transported in sections to the Fox Lot in Malibu and reassembled in the large pond. In the movie you notice that the stuntmen all dive at a angle because if they went in head first they would hit bottom- HARD !! Ace Hudkins one of the stuntmen, actually went in wrong and had to be retrieved from the lake, sent to the hospital and it took him a few weeks to recover !
The miniature model last known location was at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas location.
Here’s some mistakes ppl have come across:
Continuity: When the Batmobile is going to park (before the bomb scene) there is a sign saying “Mobey Dick Parking Only”. When he is later carrying the bomb and passes by the Batmobile the sign is not there.
Revealing: Batman is lowered into the ocean and a shark attacks his leg. When Robin in the Batcopter pulls both Batman and the shark up out of the water, the very fake looking shark has gallons of water pouring out the back of it where there must have been a large hole.
Other: When Penguin and the others attack Bruce on his date in his hotel room, Penguin is the first one to charge him. Bruce takes a swing at Penguin’s face and he goes flying from the blow. You don’t even need to slow the film down to see that Bruce totally misses him.
Other: In the scene of Bruce Wayne entering Wayne manor after his escape from the criminal hideout, Bruce Wayne opens the door, closes it but it doesn’t latch. The door starts to swing open and then suddenly closes, as if a stage hand was there to close it. (Timecode available)
Other: The scene where the Penguin is dehydrating his henchmen. Watch as the last henchmen is dehydrated – the shot changes to the Penguin and the Riddler. You hear the Riddler’s laugh but his lips don’t move until the end of the laugh.
Continuity: When Batman and Robin are trapped on the buoy, they can see the periscope for the submarine sticking above the water, yet whenever a torpedo is launched, it is shown approaching from a distance much further away. Submitted by Rosco
Continuity: When Robin is saving Batman from the shark, and he is hanging upside down to spray the shark repellent, his position in relation to Batman changes between shots (almost too far to reach, then he is suddenly close). Submitted by Rosco
Continuity: Near the end of the film we visit the office where the country representatives had argued earlier. Batman sets up the chemical equipment to bring them back. When it’s done, where has the equipment on the seats gone?
Continuity: In the scene where Batman discovers a bomb he is driving towards the villain’s hide out and you can see all the parking spaces are full except one, yet when he parks there are no cars either side of him.
Revealing: When the Penguin is sliding down the zip line, just before he hits Batman you can see Batman throwing a punch at nobody, he is swinging at empty air.
Other: Robin yells “Holy Polaris.” before the rocket even breaks the surface of the water.
Other: When the Joker fires a missile near the end of the movie it curves to the left. The writing on the missile is backwards, showing that it is reversed footage from earlier in the film, when it curved to the right.
Other: If you look closely at the top left part of the screen, you can see Penguin hit Robin with the umbrella and turn to the zip line in a far shot of the fight. One shot later, just after Batman kicks a pirate off the side of the sub, the same act is repeated when the camera is focused on the two of them.
Deliberate “mistake”: When the fight first begins on deck of the sub, a henchman jumps from the hatch and picks up a wrench that was lying on deck. If the sub just surfaced, where did that wrench come from?
Continuity: During the fight on the submarine, just before Robin punches the Joker into the water there is nobody else on the deck. When the Joker is shown falling overboard, two other henchmen are sprawled out on the deck near him.
Revealing: In the first shot of Adam West and Burt Ward driving in a beige ’66 Imperial convertible, the camera zooms out above the car – but not before you can see that the two men in the car are stand-ins for Adam and Burt.
Continuity: When Bruce Wayne escapes from the United Underworld (Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman), he climbs to the top of their hideout (Ye Olde Benbow Taverne) and jumps from the top of the roof (to the water below). But in the next shot, Bruce now jumps from the edge of the roof and dives into the water. (Timecode available)
Continuity: In the helicopter scene in the first 10 minutes of the movie, Batman moves down on the ladder and stops. In that first shot you can see that there are about 10-12 rungs below him. In the next shot there are only two. Shortly after he gets attacked by the shark there are now at least four rungs below him, and yet he has not made any attempt to move up or down.
Other: In the scene where Batman is climbing the ladder and the shark has his leg, Batman works very hard at trying to place his radio back on his utility belt only to have it fall off.
Other: When the Batboat is approaching the submarine before the final fight, the shot from the periscope is an overhead shot, not a surface shot like all the others in the film.
