How about coming up with a new villian or using a villian from the old Batman TV show that the Batman movies haven't yet featured (False Face, Mad Hatter, The Puzzler)? And is Heath Ledger playing the Joker?

Joker is arguably the most well-known Batman villain. Why not have him in it? It’s a new start to the franchise, so, I think it’s appropriate to feature The Joker. They’re also introducing Harvey Dent in this film, which means Two Face will be a major character soon, not to mention Scarecrow is supposed to be in this movie again. I welcome it and am looking forward to seeing a less campy version of Joker (no offense to Nicholson).
And yes, Heath Ledger is playing Joker.
markwill: The Riddler was in “Batman Forever”. The Puzzler is a villain from the Superman mythology.

Batman has such a large rogue’s gallery, why come up with a new villain? I’m all for using less well known villains, but since this is a reboot of the franchise, why not the Joker? Batman’s arch-foe. They didn’t use Joker in the first movie as he would have to play second fiddle to Ghul, and the Joker never plays second fiddle to anyone.

The Joker is Batman’s arch -enemy so it only makes sense to include him. Yes Heath Ledger is the Joker and it will be much darker than J. Nickelsons version.

1 is a different Franchise, that means that it is not the same Batman as the first one.
2. The Old TV show is despised by many Batman Fans
3. False Face and the puzzler were made so a guest star could appear and are way to campy, and the Mad Hatter was actually in the List of the most ridiculous Villains. (5 or 4, I think)
5. The Joker is Batman’s nemesis, He will be portrayed as a Murder and a true psychopath, Not as a dancing clown like in the TV show (Nicholson however did a great job). And Yes Heath Ledger is playing The Joker, I had my concerns about him too, but I after seeing the trailer, all those concerns worn off.
Here see what I’m talking about

The movie Batman Begins started a new series that is seperate from the first batman movie where the Joker was played by Jack Nicholson. The Dark Night will be the first time that the Joker is featured in this new series.
